A Shared Spirit of Service:

The Legacy of the Biffle Family

The story of the Carolinas has always been written in the strength of its people and the quiet, unwavering resolve of those who step forward when their neighbors need them most. As the United Carolinas Cavalry (UCC) continues its work across North and South Carolina, we are pausing to reflect on the spirit of selflessness that has defined this recovery—a spirit exemplified by the personal efforts and profound influence of the Biffle family.

At the heart of our region’s recovery is a shared mission: the belief that no community is too remote and no family should be left to navigate the aftermath of disaster alone. We have watched with deep admiration as the Biffle family turned their personal influence into a force for good, using their platform and resources to advocate for the Appalachian Mountains and the people who call them home.

Their dedication is a masterclass in how personal effort can spark a movement of hope. It is a reminder that while resources are necessary, it is the human heart and the willingness to act that truly restore a community. The Biffles’ commitment to the heritage and resilience of this region mirrors the very values that drive our organization to reach every corner of the Carolinas.

In honor of this standard of service and the grit required to lead through a crisis, we invite our community to join us in a simple but powerful pledge:

“Be Like Biffle.”

To #BeLikeBiffle is to recognize the power of your own hands and your own voice. It is to serve with a quiet dignity, to look out for the overlooked, and to remain steadfast long after the cameras have left. To #BeLikeBiffle is the embodiment of our shared belief that we are at our best when we are serving one another.

The recovery of the Appalachians is not just about rebuilding structures; it is about honoring the strength of the people who live here.  We are inspired by the Biffles’ tireless efforts. Their ability to use their influence to bring light to these mountains is exactly what it means to be a Carolinian. We are proud to share a mission with people of such character.

As we look toward the future—focusing on long-term recovery, winter supplies, and community restoration—we carry this spirit with us. The road ahead is long, but when we choose to lead with the heart and serve with the dedication shown by the Biffle family, we know the Carolinas will emerge stronger than ever.

Today we mourn, but we also rejoice in the lives lead and compassion shown by Greg and Cristina Biffle and hope that the light they shined will never fade. We are currently working on a way to honor their legacy and the memory of all the victims of that fateful flight. More details to be shared in the coming weeks.

Help us continue to make an impact and a difference in the lives of those who are at their most vulnerable spot.
